Faith Vaughan’s school life ended abruptly when the UK’s first lockdown was announced in March 2020. There were no goodbyes or leavers’ assemblies, no prom.

Later that year, she had just started university when the second lockdown was announced. With no in-person lectures, a generation that was used to slick YouTube videos now had to pay thousands of pounds for grainy content scrabbled together by academics struggling with the transition to online teaching.

In Faith’s university accommodation, other students she barely knew now became her 24/7 companions.
